In anticipation of hundreds of families entering the private rental market in search of a home this fall, the Beaumont Housing Authority is asking that private property owners throughout South East Texas consider listing their available units on the free goSection8.com website.
Later this month, BHA will be issuing new Housing Choice Vouchers to over 700 families. BHA already serves over 1,600 families through the program.
“We have the dollars, and we will have the families ready to move, said Robert Reyna, Executive Director of the Beaumont Housing Authority. “However, we are in need of affordable, safe and sanitary units for these families to lease.”
Housing Choice Vouchers are available to help offset rental costs for eligible families. Eligible properties include houses, apartments, mobile homes, town homes and condos that meet federally mandated Housing Quality Standards.
“There are so many advantages to a landlord participating in the program,” Reyna said. “Landlords receive timely rent payments that are higher than the current fair market rent levels, and the program helps keep property vacancy rates low.”
GoSection8.com provides a comprehensive database that enables Housing Choice Voucher tenants to find and compare the rentals that are currently available in the area. There is never a charge for the tenants to access the rental listings, and the listings are available to them online as well as through a bilingual call center. Landlords are provided access to a free listing service that helps to market their units and connect them with prospective tenants.
Vouchers are not geographically limited — landlords with units in the Golden Triangle area are encouraged to participate. To learn more about how BHA’s landlord participation requirements, visit the Landlords section of BHA’s website at www.bmtha.org
